- If you haven’t already done so, open the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, select the Keyboard tab, and check the “Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar” checkbox.
- Click on the keyboard flag icon in your menu bar, and select “Show Character Viewer”.
- In the Character Viewer window, select Emoji on its left-hand side. It will then show a selection of five emoji types in its second column — People, Nature, Objects, Places, and Symbols. Select whichever variety of emoji you’re interested in, and then pick the particular emoji from its third column.

Find the emoji keyboard in any app that uses the standard keyboard, like Mail or Messages. To add an emoji:
